Hey team,
Hope you’re good!?
When I was chatting to Rob I uncovered his second income stream: Self Publishing on Amazon.
This really surprised me.
He sells 11,000 books a year on the platform.
Without lifting a finger.
At £12 a book that’s £144,000 a year in passive income.
Here’s the playbook if you want to try it:
1/ Ignore the old system
In Rob’s year of self discovery he came across a blog post called “How To Self Publish Your Book Through Amazon”.
He was intrigued.
Don’t you need a publisher to write books?
Could he do it himself and earn money from it?
2/ Pick a book with potential search volume
He wrote his first book in 2012.
It was the year of the Olympic Games in London.
A book that might sell?
He thought ‘Olympic Facts’ might work.
3/ Create a minimum viable product
Rob scraped a bunch of facts into a PDF from Google.
“It was so bad, the whole thing was terrible!” - and then listed it on Amazon.
With much surprise the book sold a few times!
It was an “ah-ha!” moment.
“Wow! You don’t even have to be there doing something, it just happens!”.
4/ Increase the quality
Rob realised he could actually produce a book that would sell.
It was time to put some effort into the next one:
“Property Investment For Beginners”
He repurposed his blog posts into a comprehensive guide.
5/ Selling to his audience
Amazon search is good for sales.
To add fuel to the fire Rob promoted the book launch on his Property Podcast.
He incentivised early release sales and reviews by providing bonus content.
These tactics helped him rank as a Top Seller on Amazon.
6/ Rinse & Repeat
From then on, it was rinse and repeat with book 3, 4…
Today he sells 12,000 copies per year.
At £12 a book - that’s £144,000 in passive income.
7/ Landing a major book deal
Even better?
Publishers saw Rob’s books topping Amazon charts.
They were pissed and wanted a piece of the action!
The result?
A two book deal with Penguin - the world’s no 1 publisher.
