I quit my job... figuring out what's next?
Hey team,
Hope all is good with you!?
Let me know how you’re doing and what you’re working on - send me a DM.
So yeah I quit my job 7 days ago…
Why?
I’d gotten a tired of VC backed startup life.
I love those early stages of figuring out growth frameworks and processes, being in the dirt.
But when it comes to scaling, repeating the same stuff, I’m less excited.
More than that though:
It feels like there is so much un-tapped potential when you work in a full time role.
I’ve always had side projects and freelance work on the side, but I think it’s true, you need to be ‘all-in’ on one thing.
What’s next?
The goal is to get back to work that ‘feel’s like play’.
I’m in no rush. One option is to take some time out completely.
Do something for the long term, not for a quick buck.
Talk to lots of people, help them & explore options.
I started a Podcast to help facilitate this - check it out.
Next guest is Jamie Rawsthorne.
Immediate options:
1. TikTok / Content Agency:
I already have a couple of freelance clients on this.
We’ve scaled a Founder’s TikTok 0>10k followers in 1 month by repurposing old podcast appearances and jumping on a couple of trends.
Ran some tests with On Deck and my own Podcast clips here too, it’s a nice channel for free awareness, you can turn one pod into 5 > 15 quality clips. MFM, All-in, 20minVC Podcast all have this down.
Challenge is sending files + finding amazing editors + managing clients.
It’s also really hard to quantify the ROI of this for a client.
Could be a nice biz if productised like Design Joy.
2. $600k per year as a one person business (Nomadlist.com for XXXX)

Ben Tossell got me thinking about this. So many angles.
I was talking to friend this week who said he wanted to build the ‘Harvard for NFTs’
There’s a lot of cool projects in the Cohort Based Course / Community / Digital Education space right.
Whether that be platforms like Maven, institutions like On Deck or individual programs like Creator Now.
I realised I was writing about this stuff a year ago…
It’s only getting bigger.
3. Working with Creators
I spoke to an emerging Creator on TikTok Gabriel Nussbaum this week.
He grew 0 to 1million+ followers in 6 months and is about to go full time.
He has an amazing platform and opportunity to build really cool things for his audience.
Creators like this need help building systems for their content and sustainable long term products that they are proud of.
So yeah, let’s see where we go… excited, energised, also overwhelmed by the options.
Trying to take it one step at a time.
Don’t compare your day 1 to someone else’s day 100… etc!
