People Buy Compelling Big Ideas (The Best Creators Become One)

What a motley crew we are building here! Hope you’re all killing it this week.

Today I wanted to look at ‘Compelling Big Ideas’.

Let’s dive in…

It’s brand values 101 to stand for something

To capture your customer’s imagination.

Pull on their emotions.

Help them feel like the type of person they want to be.


People buy compelling big ideas

The top consumers brands do this.

Think:

  • Nike - ‘Just Do It’ 'Find Your Greatness'

  • Apple - ‘Think Different’ 

  • Ikea - ‘The Wonderful Everyday'

We buy more than just a product: we buy a piece of our identity.


If not an identity, we seek an outcome

If you look at the best selling non-fiction books of the last century:

  • The 4 Hour Work Week - Tim Ferris

  • Think & Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill

  • How to win friends & influence people - Dale Carnegie

We read them as much for the result as the author.

There is a clear exchange of value.


Today, we’re all up for sale

Your profile = your shop window

Your content = your product on the shelves.

So it would make sense to have a compelling offering. 

To own a big idea.

Or an appealing outcome.


The best creators already do this

Their audiences buy into them 3x more because of what they stand for:

  • Logan Paul - ‘Maverick’

  • Jocko Willink - ‘Extreme Ownership’

  • Steven Bartlett - ‘Happy Sexy Millionaire’

  • James Clear  - ‘1% Better Every Day’

Anyone new to their content can instantly grasp what they’re about.


A vital compass

The compelling big idea provides the ‘Mission’.

It set’s the compass for everything you are working on.

You can then ask this daily question:

Does what i’m working on:

  1. ‘Contribute to’

  2. ‘Align with’

  3. ‘Progress the’

…mission?

If the answer is ever ‘No’ or ‘Maybe not but it could go viral’ then you must adjust accordingly.

The audience of those who don’t will quickly get lost, confused and churn.
